About

My name is Nick Schmidt. I swam at Eastern Illinois University where I earned an accounting & MBA degree. After graduation in 2005, I did the normal thing and moved into an accounting job.

I am an accountant by day and a video blogger (vlogger) by night. As you can see I am not your average accountant. A vlogger is just like a blogger. However, instead of writing blogs I produce, edit, and even make music for my videos. I use my videos to express my creativity and life passions.

I have been recognized by MTV and VH1 after my article in the Wall Street Journal. I was featured in the Wall Street Journal (10/3/06 section D1 “Virtual Reality TV”) after placing 2ndAmerica’s Dream Date” competition by Gofish.com. Placing 2nd allowed me to win a trip to Las Vegas, where I attended the Billboard Music Awards. I covered video footage backstage with the creator of Techiediva.com, Gina Hughes. I have been an editor for Techiediva since April 2006. Techiediva.com was selected by PC Magazine as one of the top 100 websites in 2006.

All of my experiences have provided me the ability to be involved in various technological projects. I have spoken at the downtown Chicago Apple Store on various occcasions and I am currently teaching video blogging at the local Apple Store on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.

I have also spoken at the three day panel of the Art Institute of Chicago campus for the Motion Graphics Festival. Due to the increasing usage of video in consumer product marketing, I had the opportunity to be a guest for the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association’s (CIMA) “User Generated Content” panel, which also included the V.P. of Edelmen, V.P. of Myspace.com, and the CEO of Blogger and Feedburner.

My most recent project consultation is for ProjectElliott.com where I am assisting in the in the “ development of videos for the company’s new social network of job search.

I’m always interested in meeting new people so don’t feel shy! Just head over to my Add Me section to find out what social networking websites I am involved with…or just send an instant sessage on AIM (Schmulty) or email me:

About this website? How did you become involved?

It began as a blog, with long, drawn-out text entries to keep friends in touch with friends. In May 2005, I discovered vlogging and began video-taping random thoughts with my digital camera. Hence the title of the vlog, What’s Goin’ On?. Other people started to notice the vlog after I had registered with many networking websites. Since then the number of subscribers to the website has increased.

What does Schmult mean?

Schmult is a nickname that I gained while I was in college. As already stated, I attended Eastern Illinois University on a swimming scholarship. It is customary for the heat sheets at swim meets to list all participating swimmers in the competitions. During one of EIU’s swim meets, my last name was misspelled on the heat sheet. My last name was listed as “Schmult” instead of “Schmidt”. My friends saw my name misspelled on the heat sheet, thus the name “Schmult” has stuck with me over the years, in addition to a number of other nicknames.

We should hook up. We are in Champaign too! My partner, George, teaches Entrepreneurial Finance at the U of I. We’d love to talk with you more. I’m a former radio broadcaster who built her own studio to broadcast from! By the way, I’d vote for you for Sexiest Geek ‘07. I thought the same thing…why not a “guy” category??
