Twitter vs. Facebook Test 2

Two months ago I did a test to see which social network/micro blogging reaches more people and actually interact.

I believe that the social network or micro blogging sites will not efficiently work if you do NOT interact/reply with others.  The whole point of using these websites is to interact with people.

Two months ago I did a test to see which social network/micro blogging reaches more people between Facebook & Twitter.  In case you don’t already know, you can use twitter to update your Facebook status.

Since the last test there has been a new layout update with Facebook. Whenever a user logs in they see a list of all of their friends status changes, pictures, or any other updates to their profile. Plus you can see if anyone else commented on these updates. So with the new layout you can see the tangible evidence of people interacting

Also twitter has become extremely popular. According to Alexia.com, in the last 3 months twitter.com has risen to 291 points. As you can see at the end of the March there was a huge peak for twitter. I have also noticed personally of more media coverage about twitter.com.  I have been in Chicago and Louisville multiple times throughout the last 3 months and in both locations I have seen a dramatic increase of news coverage on the local TV channels about twitter.com. Ashton Kushner has developed a challenge to be the 1st person with 1 millions followers and succeed. Plus I have notice on the TV show the View Barbara Walters has a twitter account and so do multiple people on that show. Even Jimmy Fallen talks about it on his new tv show and has discussions about it with his guests.

So I wanted to do the same test again. I just simply asked people to reply to my Twitter vs. Facebook test.

Here are the results and comparisons from the last test.

Twitter:
April Results:    2 People replied           # of Followers: 449
March Results:   6 People replied          # of Followers: 387

Decrease of       4 People                    Increase of  62 Followers

Facebook:
April Results:  4 People Replied          # of Friends: 733
March Results: 20 People Replied       # of Friends: 716

Decrease of 16                                   Increase of  17

So both results show a decrease in interactivity between Twitter and Facebook.  However, it looks like Twitter has more interactivity because it had a smaller decrease of change of replies and had a huge increase in followers.

The huge increase of people following on Twitter also increases the amount of time a user will have to go through each tweet.  Even some people on Twitter mentioned to me that they like the new layout on Facebook other than the huge mass of tweets on Twitter. It just too hard to keep up with all the tweets to interact compared to Facebook.

I personally think Twitter could become more popular and easier to use if there were some type of way to filter tweets in an organized and easy way to read. I actually tweeted about this and emailed Twitter about this a long long time ago. I think it was when I 1st joined twitter.com

Facebook, is just awesome to have more more information about a person and their life.

So maybe it is a question of which has more valuable information & how to constitute valuable information from less valuable information?
