Hi. Just read the article about you in the paper this morning. I thought I’d get on here and leave some sort of encouraging note. Just watched the high-five montage, and I don’t know that I could say anything that would raise your spirits higher than that.

Truly I’m inspired by your postive attitude and your desire to enjoy life. It is a short blessing for us and we certainly should make the most of it…no matter what our circumstances.

James 1:2,3 “Count it all joy, my brethren, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”

Keep the faith, and run the good race!

Hi Nick I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is shawn and I am a 36 year female who has been battling this cancer for 6 years now. I have numerous surgeries , hardcore chemo and now am on my second clinical trial at the Universty of Michigan. My oncologists is Dr. Scott Shutze. Wonderful Man , I am not sure what the trial is called that you are thinking about doing here. The one I was on was AP23573 and was working well. I had to stop because I had some time lapse and tumors started growing but I still feel deep down in my heart that it would still be working if I could of kept a normal routine of it. i was on it for 3 years. I am on oral cytoxin and Rapamune now and my scans came back stable yesterday, so they have stopped growing again which is wonderful. I f you are ever at U of M I would love to meet with you I too feel like this is a very lonley disease sometimes. SO remember you are not alone with this there are alot of us out there looking and hoping for that cure.

Hi Nick. Sorry to see another young man has had to start fighting this DSRCT battle. My son Greg is 19yo, and a long term survivor of DSRCT. We have a website, DSRCT.COM.for mutual support and information. Shawn is a menber, as is Greg. Please visit, drop us a note on our chat group, or contact me directly, if you wish. I’m listed under “contact us”, as one of the moderators of the group. I’m an adult Oncology RN, and as such, use my background to help others with whatever questions they may have. I’m from Toledo, OH, 40 mins from Ann Arbor. Greg had some of his treatment there, too. Like Shawn, I’ll also make the offer of a visit while you are at U of M if you would like. Hope to hear from you.

Fran. Thanks for coming to the website and checking everything out. Bethany just gave me some tips on how to stretch out my back because I have been getting some pains. Thanks for keeping me in your families prayers. I appreciate it greatly!!

  • Nick Schmidt Said:

Beth, thanks for the info on DSRCT.com. I have been trying to stay away from some things that I have read online. I even joined a few online groups, but all of them were a little too depressing and I didn’t need that in my life. However, I will check out this website too!! Thanks!!

Also, thanks for the invite for the visit!!
